Tigers Germany continues to spearhead greener solutions for the fashion industry

Tigers Germany is pioneering greener solutions for the fashion industry, having launched an alternative rail solution from China to Europe, called Tiger Rail.

A 2017 report by the Ellen MacArthur Foundation, revealed that the transport of textile products is responsible for greenhouse gas emissions of 1.2 billion tonnes annually.

The new Tigers service is environmentally friendly due to CO2 reduction compared to both air and ocean freight (which currently represents the largest portion of the supply chain), while also providing shorter transit times (16-18 days down from 35 days via ocean).

Andreas Niklasch, Managing Director – Germany & Switzerland, Tigers has overseen a number of projects to help the fashion industry get greener.

"We are working on a project with a Finnish packaging service, which is designed to enable the return and reuse of delivery packaging for online retailers and their users for our Business to Consumer deliveries,” he said.

"Packages are designed to fold in letter size when empty and are made out of recycled materials, reducing CO2 emissions by up to 80% and producing virtually no trash.

"We do local printing on shirts for our customers, with smaller numbers of orders printed just-in-time at our Cologne warehouse to avoid transport costs.”

Tigers Germany is working on a same day bicycle delivery service, to be first launched in Cologne, to boost its green final mile solutions.

"We conducted a study for our bicycle delivery service which unveiled that younger audiences are happy to pay a little bit more in order to receive the goods on the same day, with the effect of zero emission playing a pivotal part in their decision-making process,” added Niklasch.

"We are planning to launch the new service in September 2018 to meet the increased demand at the beginning of the season.”

Tigers’ Cologne centre doubled in space in less than a year due to increasing demand, with the team of 20 offering bespoke packaging solutions including cardboard packing and label taping, adding relevant documents, such as autographs from YouTube influencers, and other promotional material.

The Hong Kong headquartered supply chain specialist is launching its online marketplace, called eShop, across all of its offices worldwide in 2018.
